Michael Jacobson

A big ARIS welcome to Dr. Michael Jacobson, the newest member of the Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) Leadership Team. Michael serves as the Director of the Office of Strategic Research Initiatives at Binghamton University. He oversees team and research development activities related to large external proposals and advises faculty on broader impacts planning. His interest in broader impacts is an outgrowth of his experience in outreach and community engagement activities related to his archaeological research.

Michael previously served as a principal investigator and project director at Binghamton University’s Public Archaeology Facility, and he developed numerous research collaborations with descendant communities and other stakeholders to develop preservation strategies that promoted community sustainability. He also has expertise in digital humanities applications as an approach to public engagement. Michael holds a doctorate and MA in anthropology from Binghamton University and a BA in anthropology from Fort Lewis College in Colorado.
