2021 Summit: Call for Proposals
Research Impact & Public Engagement at the Intersection of the Future Workforce

ARIS and Research Impact Canada (RIC) are working in collaboration to host the 2021 Conference on Research Impact & Public Engagement at the Intersection of the Future Workforce. This Summit represents the first time ARIS and RIC have brought our two communities together to learn from our collective expertise and network for future collaboration.
Plenary sessions, speakers, and panels will focus on research impact as drivers of economic and workforce development -- including precollegiate and higher education, business and industry, and government partnerships. Participants will discuss the community to career pathways in the STEM technical workforce, improving workforce diversity, government efforts to enhance workforce development, and the role of public engagement and research impact.
The meeting will be focused on four tracks.
- Public engagement in areas of emerging technologies (Automation, IoT, AI, and Information Technologies, etc.)
The worlds of work and education are changing. This track is designed to showcase public engagement as an entry point into or outgrowth of emerging technologies.
- Impact of Programs and Research on Workforce Readiness
Career readiness programs often begin in secondary school and career-integrated curricula can span PreK-12 into postsecondary education. This track is designed to showcase data-informed formal and informal learning opportunities that are helping participants improve workforce readiness, from social-emotional skills to technical skills and everything in-between.
- Engaging diverse and inclusive communities in STEM Careers
STEM disciplines are economic drivers, but STEM careers have traditionally not embraced diversity. This track will explore not only barriers but enablers of diversity and inclusion in STEM careers.
- Futurist Projections and the changing workforce
The workforce has always been changing but the pace of change is accelerating. Employers, employees, and jobseekers need to be forward thinking and imagining what the workplace will look like in the next year, in 5 or in 10 years? This track will encourage forward-thinking debate to understand what we need to do now to gain career resilience for the future.
Poster showcase, regular sessions (60 minutes long), and workshop sessions (90 minutes long) are being accepted until 11:59 p.m. January 29, 2021 (your local time zone). Submissions should include a short abstract, and regular sessions and workshops also require a one-page session description included with their applications.
